Donna's Story
Life
I married Kerry Penner in August '97. We have a daughter, Mikayla who was born in August,'00. (We had 2 miscarriages before Miklayla and one after her. She's our miracle baby!) My daughter, Stacey, who most of you remember (she attended Masuk with me our senior year!) will be 35 in May and an accountant. I have 3 sons, David, 29...father of 3 - Katie 8 and David III, 4 1/2, and Alyssa, 16 months...Gary is 28...and Jason, 27, father of Nevaeh (Heaven spelled backwards) who will be 4 on April 6th. (as of March 2008) Yes...4 grandkids and the oldest is 9 months older than Mikayla! Kerry is an ordained minister who studied and received his credentials from the Bible Institute of Jerusalem, Israel. He is a Canadian so we get to visit Canada every other year. I work a direct sales business that carries items for the home (AtHome America), so I can stay home with Mikayla who we are homeschooling. I've lived back in Monroe since June of 1980 when I bought the house across the street from my parents. Mom and Dad are still in the old house, but sold it to my sister, Dianna, about 9 years ago. So the family is still all around!
I met Kerry at a church in Milford, where I was the secretary for 4 yrs. He was a good friend of my pastor (and boss) and came to visit for a while and as they say...the rest is history. While at this church, I was a youth leader as well as a worship leader (found out that I could really sing! Wish I had explored it more in high school!) We have since moved on from that church and were attending Stepney Baptist until we moved to North Carolina right after Christmas, 2007. We now attend...Expand for more
Winston Salem First Assembly and are getting involved with street ministry as well as discipleship.
Due to Kerry's extensive world travels, we have friends around the globe who visit with us from time to time. This summer we will host our friends from Jerusalem as well as (hopefully) Greece. And Kerry's family pops in from time to time. They are in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Calgary and Devon, Alberta as well as his youngest brother in Brisbane, Australia! How he ended up with this little Connecticut girl is amazing to him and to me!
We traveled across the country in 1999 to attend a friend's wedding in L.A. (I was singing at the wedding ceremony) I'd always wanted to see this country and we did it in a 1979 Lincoln Mark V. What an experience that was! We saw all but 15 states(and alot of Canada) and put 10,000 miles on the Lincoln! We were on the road for 7 1/2 weeks. We've been to 4 more states since the trip so now our plan is to make sure we see the remaining 11. Mikayla's education is out there on the road, too! (Friends of ours raised their 2 children sailing the world on a 52 foot yacht! Their daughter never sat in a classroom till college and graduated 2nd in her class from the Coast Guard Academy in New London. She married the guy who was 1st in her class! She speaks 5 languages fluently. Her brother graduated 1st in his class from U of Texas at San Antonio. Not bad for a kid they said had learning disabilities! Education is a world experience!) So we hope to have Mikayla experience a lot of the world.
Looking forward to another reunion. It'll be nice to see everyone again. Had a blast at the 20th!
